Sunday 24th March at 2:30pm

The orchestra was formed in 1987 and has provided music
lovers with a wonderful selection of music ever since.

Music has always been a part of Ballarat
life. Ballarat historian, W. B.Withers, writing in 1856, tells of band
musicians from Melbourne and Geelong who brought their instruments with them to
the diggings so that the bugle, and the cornopean, and the flute were
often heard at night-fall to echo from tent to tent, from hill to valley; and
from the hill beyond again was flung back the refluent melody, while the song,
and the laugh, and the merry jest, helped to swell the volume of sonorous
harmony. The impetus for reestablishing a community orchestra in Ballarat
came from Professor Frank Hurley of he Ballarat College of Advanced Education,
now the University of Ballarat. In 1987, Professor Hurley asked Peter Dale, a
well-known Ballarat organiser of community events, to reconstitute a community
orchestra for Ballarat, pledging support from the College.

THE RESILIENCE PROJECT presents Hugh van Cuylenburg

Wednesday, 3 April 2019 at 7:00pm

The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to
schools, sports clubs and businesses and provide them with evidence based,
practical strategies to build resilience and happiness.  The Resilience
Project has delivered programs to over 500 schools around the country and
worked with many elite sporting teams including Australian cricket, netball and
soccer, NRL and AFL clubs.  Through presentations, wellbeing journals,
schools curriculum, teacher diaries and their App, The Resilience Project seeks
to help all Australians become mentally healthy.

Founding Director Hugh van Cuylenburg has been working in education
for over 13 years. Starting out as a primary school teacher, he then moved into
a position working in a secondary setting with disengaged adolescents. The
highlight of his teaching career was the year he spent in the far north of
India volunteering and living at an underprivileged school in the Himalayas. It
was this experience, and subsequent post graduate studies, that led him to some
simple conclusions about the things that we need to be doing here in Australia
if we want to be happier.

During this presentation, Hugh will share his experiences and
combine them with practical strategies that can be implemented everyday to
improve our overall wellbeing.

The Rock & Roll Circus Tour rolls in to
Australia in 2019
featuring a
two hour concert production that assembles a rock and roll band to boot to
celebrate the talent, the hits and the legacies of the original stars of Rock
N’ Roll – Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Big

Dance with us back to an era when rock and roll influenced
and created a social movement for the day’s teenagers… the way you dressed, the
hairstyles, the language and the love.
Walk along the street and you saw the gals sporting hourglass
silhouettes accessorized by gloves and pearls. Bobby socks and bubble gum were
everywhere; and the guys with sideburns and slicked
back hair sporting the leather jacket and denim jeans… an era where black
horned rim
brow line glasses became a trend… an era where petrol was so
cheap that it fuelled not only the hot rods on the roads but fired up a musical
movement that would only be lived for a short while but would last in the
hearts and souls of billions for eternity. It is this era that will be
recreated on stage ….

Introducing the band

Scott 'Buddy' Cameron is no stranger
to portraying Buddy Holly having
done so for well over a decade to many a rapturous crowd. Scott is one of the
most recognised Buddy Holly performers in the world receiving rave reviews for
his portrayal of the 50’s legend in the International smash hit musical Buddy:
The Buddy Holly Story in productions staged from 2005 through to 2009 and, to
this day, continues to don the trademark horn-rimmed glasses, the ever so
engaging and charismatic figure and a lilting vocal hiccup in many other
concert productions. He is recognised by Members of Holly’s own family and the
“Peggy Sue” as being the closest thing today to the legend of Holly.
